An inspiration in India.

Late in 2005 Steve Demos was off traveling and trekking, as he’s prone to do. This time it was up to the the headwaters of the great Ganges River in India—in a special place named Gangotri. As he walked along the river bank he reflected on his health. To be honest, his body was talking to him and it was all about aging. Those little aches and pains were getting harder to ignore!

He thought about his fellow Baby Boomers and how they must feel like him as well. He thought of how his generation will probably be the longest living yet, and if they are, they’re going to need some help living long and living well. So it was there, by the banks of the holy Ganges River that Steve had an epiphany: a whole generation of people like him are poised to take control of their health, but they need a means to do it. And Steve knew of a good way to provide that means.

A grand collaboration.

Steve isn’t a foodie kind of guy… he’s a food nutrition guy, so it didn’t take him long to realize that he had the know-how and passion to create nutritious and tasty foods that would support healthy living. He was also connected to a talented group of pioneering veterans from all corners of the natural products industry, and he would call upon them to help breathe life into his vision. But first he would call up his go-to-guy and fellow innovator, Todd Beckman. In October of 2006 Steve Demos, Todd Beckman and a standout team of industry movers and shakers would create a new category of products: great-tasting foods that help support vigorous good health through the marriage of science and organics.

A new business is born.

NextFoods is the new venture of Steve Demos, natural foods trailblazer and the founder and former president of White Wave Inc., and Todd Beckman, former Vice President of Business Development and Operations at WhiteWave Foods Company-- the largest producer of soy based products in the United States. Joining Steve and Todd are a skilled and road-tested team of mavericks who worked with them to launch Silk Soymilk into the stratosphere.

NextFoods is founded on the principles of Right Livelihood, which is a Buddhist teaching about how to earn one’s daily bread out of doing work that is “right”. Like everyone else, we have to earn a living: we’re trying to do it in a way that makes the world a better place and helps humanity. We want to provide you with exceptionally nutritious foods that can accelerate you on your journey toward good health while demonstrating in business our deep commitment to environmental stewardship and social responsibility. We do the nutrition work for you and you help us all fulfill our mission of Right Livelihood. No trips to India necessary, but it sure is fun if you can go!
